Christmas Lights Synced to Music: How to Use Music Mode
Partager
To sync your Christmas lights to music, turn on music mode in the Surplife app: your LED curtain then reacts to sound, changing colors and patterns to the beat. The Glowcony curtain offers 5 different music effects. Start your holiday playlist, pick an effect, and your window or balcony becomes a dance floor.
How music mode works
In music mode, the LEDs stop following a preset animation: they light up, change color and move with the sound. Bass, volume peaks and quiet moments all show up visually on the curtain. Because every LED on the Glowcony Magic Curtain is addressable, the effects are far livelier than simple blinking.
Turning on music mode, step by step
- Plug in the curtain and open the Surplife app (iOS or Android).
- Connect to the curtain via Bluetooth.
- Open music mode from the curtain's control page.
- Choose one of the 5 music effects.
- Start your music and adjust brightness if needed.
If the lights barely react, turn the volume up a little or adjust the sensitivity if the app offers it. Try several effects: some suit upbeat tracks, others work better with slow songs.
Which songs work best?
Tracks with a strong beat give the most spectacular effects. A few styles that work well:
- Pop Christmas classics: upbeat, cheerful, everyone knows them.
- '50s and '60s rock 'n' roll Christmas songs: perfect for a sparkling effect.
- Electronic remixes: the bass really makes the curtain pulse.
- Traditional carols: calmer, for a gentle effect during dinner.
Tip: make two playlists, one "party" and one calmer "dinner", and switch music effects at the same time.
5 occasions where music mode steals the show
Christmas Eve
During drinks, a curtain moving to the beat instantly sets a festive mood. Switch to a calm animation for dinner.
The New Year's countdown
Run music mode, then switch to "Happy New Year" text at midnight. All our ideas are in New Year's light decor.
A night with friends
Behind the sofa or on a wall, the curtain becomes a real party backdrop, no DJ gear needed.
A kid's birthday
Kids love seeing the lights "dance" with them. Add their name as scrolling text.
Hot chocolate on the balcony
A mellow playlist, a slow effect, a cozy throw: instant comfort.
Be a good neighbor
If your curtain is on a balcony, keep the music at a reasonable volume, especially at night. The lights can move to the beat without the whole building hearing it. And set the timer so everything switches off at a decent hour: see our guide to Christmas light timers.
A note about light effects
Fast, flashing effects can bother some people who are sensitive to strobe lights. If a guest is affected, choose a slow effect or a steady animation.
