How to Display Custom Text on LED Curtain Lights: "Merry Christmas", Names & Messages
Partager
To display text on your LED curtain lights, open the Surplife app, connect the curtain via Bluetooth, go to the text feature, type your message, then pick the color and scrolling speed. Within seconds, "Merry Christmas" or your kids' names scroll across your window or balcony. The secret to readable text: short, high-contrast and not too fast.
What you need
- Addressable LED curtain lights that support text, like the Glowcony Magic Curtain (400 individually controlled RGB LEDs).
- The free Surplife app on iPhone or Android.
- Bluetooth turned on and the curtain plugged in.
Step by step
1. Connect the curtain
Plug in the curtain, open the Surplife app and add the device. Stay close for the first connection: Bluetooth has a limited range, especially through walls.
2. Open the text feature
In the app, find the text mode. Depending on the app version, menu names may vary slightly, but it's always reachable from the curtain's control page.
3. Type your message
Write your text. Keep it short: on a curtain, letters are made of dots of light, and a long message takes a while to scroll through.
4. Choose color and speed
Pick a high-visibility color (red, warm white, green, gold) from the 16 million available, then set the speed. Medium or slow is easier for passers-by to read.
5. Check from outside
Step out for two minutes and look at your curtain from the street or across the road. It's the best way to know whether the speed and color work.
Watch the reading direction
If your curtain hangs inside a window, check that the text reads correctly from outside. Depending on which side the power cable comes from, the message may appear mirrored from the street. If so, just flip the curtain or hang it from the other side.

Tips for text that pops
- Under 15 characters if possible: readable at a glance.
- One solid color rather than a rainbow for text: readability first.
- Dim the room lights if the curtain is indoors: better contrast from outside.
- Set the timer so your message turns on by itself at dusk.
FAQ
Can you write any text on LED curtain lights?
With an addressable curtain like Glowcony, yes: type your message in the Surplife app and it scrolls across the curtain. Short messages read best.
Do I need Wi-Fi to display text?
The curtain is controlled by Bluetooth from your phone, so you just need to be within range while setting it up.
Can the text be read from far away?
Yes, after dark, especially with a bright color and moderate speed. On the 2 × 2 m, the tighter LED spacing makes letters sharper up close.
Can I mix text and animations?
Yes, you can switch between your message and the 100+ animations in the app.
